Categories of Membership

Standard Membership

You may be considered for Standard Membership if you are: an institution of higher learning or other complementary 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(3) equivalent organization; you want full participation in SURA activities; and, you are willing and able to support and further SURA’s goals.

Applicants for Standard Membership from outside the SURA region may be considered. See SURA Members page for states in the SURA region. SURA limits the number of such outside-the-region Standard Members to 10% of the total Standard Members in the SURA region.

Each Standard Member has one vote on any matter on which Members are entitled to vote. Each Standard Member is represented on the SURA Council of President by its chief executive (president, chancellor) and on the SURA Board of Trustees.

Corporate Membership

You may be considered for Corporate Membership if you are: a for-profit entity; you desire participation in some or all of SURA’s programmatic activities; and you are willing and able to support and further SURA’s goals. There are three classes of Corporate Membership: Gold, Silver, and Small Business.

Each Gold Corporate Member pays the highest level of dues and has one vote on any matter on which Members are entitled to vote. Each Gold Corporate Member is represented on the SURA Council of Presidents by its chief executive and on the SURA Board of Trustees.

SURA limits the total number of Gold Corporate Members to 10% of the total Standard Members in the SURA region.

Silver Corporate Members and Small Business Members may participate in SURA’s programmatic activities and may attend SURA Board meetings at the invitation of the Board. Silver Corporate Members and Small Business Members do not have a vote on matters on which Members are entitled to vote and are not represented on the SURA Council of Presidents or the SURA Board of Trustees.

Affiliate Membership

You may be considered for Affiliate Membership if you are a not-for-profit entity; you want some participation in SURA’s programmatic activities; and, you are willing and able to support and further SURA’s goals.

Affiliate Members may participate in SURA’s programmatic activities and may attend SURA Board meetings at the invitation of the Board. Affiliate Members do not have a vote on matters on which Members are entitled to vote and are not represented on the SURA Council of Presidents or the SURA Board of Trustees.
